Victorian Manchester: ‘Bank Robbery And Suicide’ in Didsbury

We tend to think that guns, robberies and violent crime in Manchester are modern phenomena. But there was lots of it going on in Victorian times too. Even in Didsbury (heaven forbid).

Recently I mentioned how I called United Utilities and was asked for my date of birth for ‘data protection’ reasons. I refused to give it and they wouldn’t discuss my water bill.

‘Devastating global warming can be avoided’ — but it depends on your definition of ‘devastating’

The Guardian writes that devastating global warming can be avoided without excessive economic cost but only if we act now and limit the temperature increase to 2C.

How to live 40% longer?

Scientists believe that a reduction in calorie intake by 60 per cent of normal, while maintaining a healthy diet of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients, could prolong our lives by up to 40 per cent. The Telegraph.
