Last night at 7pm, naked cyclists rode around Manchester city centre. They were protesting about oil dependency and car culture and celebrating ‘the human body and the bike’.
The reception from the public was overwhelmingly positive. Many people couldn’t believe their eyes.
Afterwards I found myself in a slightly surreal situation: standing on a main street in the city centre, surrounded by naked people and talking to a motorcycle policeman who had helped escort the cyclists and who also thought it had all gone very well.
Today, 9 June, similar naked bike events will be happening across the world.
And here’s a clip from someone else in Manchester. Taken from a rather dynamic angle, upstairs on a double-decker bus on Oxford Road, as the cyclists pass by.
