Strike by ITV technicians, early 1970’s?

I was a TV addict when I was a child and this is something I have a dim memory of. Does anyone have more information?

It was probably the very early 1970’s. I was watching a drama, which I think was the drama series ‘Kate’ starring Phyllis Calvert and made by Yorkshire Television. In the middle someone put a piece of paper in front of the camera with handwriting on it. That was the end of the programme and the start of some kind of industrial action.

What confuses me is… would ITV still have been broadcasting that kind of drama live in the early 1970’s? Also I seem to remember it happened in the afternoon.

I could be wrong on any of these details as I would only have been eight, nine or ten years old at the time of this TV series.
