Drinking rules can be ‘relaxed’ for footballs fans but not for gay events

For years the LGBT community has been told that one of the reasons why the gay village being must be fenced off and ticket-only during Manchester Pride is due to the bylaws concerning public drinking.

Now, once again, that policy has been exposed for the fraud it always was.

Manchester demolishes one of Britain’s oldest cinemas

Cine City in Withington is the latest historic building to go in the epidemic of greedy, short-sighted and inept development that has swept Manchester over the past ten years.

Formerly The Scala, it opened in 1912 and was only the third cinema in Britain.

Meanwhile the Victorian railway arches on Store Street, near Piccadilly, are being demolished.

Britain throws away £10bn of food every year

‘Each day, according to the government-backed report, Britons throw away 4.4 million apples, 1.6 million bananas, 1.3 million yoghurt pots, 660,000 eggs, 550,000 chickens, 300,000 packs of crisps and 440,000 ready meals. And for the first time government researchers have established that most of the food waste is made up of completely untouched food products – whole chickens and chocolate gateaux that lie uneaten in cupboards and fridges before being discarded.’

Manchester Pride 2008: increased ticket prices revealed

More ticket prices prices have been announced for Manchester Pride 2008. Note that in many cases tickets are ’subject to a booking and transaction fee’ (see below).
