A dramatic fire broke out in Miles Platting tonight.
I could see the flames from where I live in the city centre and was concerned that another historic building might be going up in smoke, maybe in Ancoats, so I went to have a look. It was much further away that I thought, in Lord North Street, not far from ASDA.
The BBC reports that 70 fire fighters were trying to control the blaze which was in a pallet yard and there were concerns that it might engulf an adjacent property – containing flammable liquid. In fact, there was a small explosion while I was there.
Customers and staff at the Vermilion & Cinnabar restaurant, which is on the other side of Lord North Street (and not shown on the satellite image below), were standing outside in the car park watching the scene.
