30 minutes of sunset in 30 seconds (video)

Download the Quicktime version here (or click through to the blog page for the Flash version).

I’m up at the house near the England/Scotland border. The back overlooks fields, hills and crags and has always been a prime location for some spectacular sunsets. I recorded 30 minutes of one tonight and then reduced this footage down to the 30-second-long time-lapse movie that you see here.

If you want the technical how-to-do-it…

Cool screen grab software

FastStone Capture This is great. It can grab a full length web page, scrolling if necessary. Free for personal use. I like to keep copies of the pages I design. Also today I discovered that Opera 9 can save a web page as a self contained web archive file (.wht extension).

Democracy Player — internet video player

‘Democracy Player is a new kind of browser for watching videos– grab webpages with video and video RSS feeds (including podcasts, video blogs, and BitTorrent feeds), and watch them full screen, one after the other. It’s free and open source.’

I’ve tried this kind of software before. But yesterday, when I installed Democracy Player, for the first time I really saw where this is all going. I think due to the neat way it presents the channels.
