Manchester’s wealth was founded on the cotton industry and dependent on slave-grown cotton. But the city was also at the centre of the anti-slavery movement.

Fallen trees removed — finally

On 18 January, six trees blew over in the park near where I live. Some of them blocked one of the main paths into the park.

Don’t believe the big fibs that are put around by commercial vested interests today. They make out that Manchester was some kind of gay wasteland before Canal Street took off in the early 1990’s.
