Yesterday late afternoon we left the Peace Garden in St. Peter’s Square and walked along to Rusholme for the Queeruption Opening Party. Reclaim the Scene aims to build on last year, which was its first event, with another post-Pride-parade picnic and (Out of the) Village Fete. This year we’re promised it will be ‘bigger and better than ever, with free food, performers, live art, stalls, music, and kids’ entertainment!’
Feast! is one of the best summer events in Manchester. It happens over three days around the lake in Platt Fields Park in Rusholme. You can take along a picnic and enjoy a wide range of performances and other fun. Best of all it’s completely free. Here’s a clip from last year.
Manchester Pride is offering grants of up to £500 to individuals and organisations. The aim is to help ‘raise the quality and diversity of events’ that take place during Pride 2009 this summer. In a surprise development last night, Phil Burke the chairman of the Village Business Association issued a statement.
For years the LGBT community has been told that one of the reasons why the gay village must be fenced off and ticket-only during Manchester Pride is due to the bylaws concerning public drinking. Now, once again, that policy has been exposed for the fraud it always was.
